Peeling hands makes you uncomfortable and annoying because it loses the aesthetics of your hands. Not only that, peeling hands can also be a sign of bad health.

The most common cause of peeling hands is due to the impact of chemicals in dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent or other chemicals. This can be remedied in many ways at home. But if peeling hands doesn’t improve or gets worse after you’ve tried many things, go to the hospital for a diagnosis and treatment.

Common causes of peeling hands include:

Environmental factors

Environment are external factors that you may or may not control such as weather, climate, air…

The environment directly affects the overall skin as well as the skin of people’s hands. It will cause many problems related to peeling of the skin on the hands. One of them is the condition of dry skin.

Usually, dry skin is the most common cause of flaky skin on the fingertips. This condition is common in winter. If you regularly shower with hot water or use soaps with strong detergents, you can also increase the likelihood of dry skin.

Other signs of dry skin include: itchy, cracked skin in many places, especially at the fingertips, uncomfortable tight skin.

To combat flaking hands associated with dry skin, try using mild soaps when bathing or cleaning the house. Then, you use hand moisturizer. Never bathe or wash your hands with hot water.

Wash your hands often

Frequent hand washing can strip the skin of its natural moisture. This causes the chemical ingredients in soaps to directly affect the sensitive skin layer, causing it to become irritated and flaky.

To overcome this, make it a habit to wash your hands only when necessary and use gentle cleaning products.

Use products with strong chemicals

Certain chemicals are added to products such as moisturizers, shampoos, body washes and other cosmetics that can irritate the skin and cause peeling of the hands.

To improve, try changing to using products of natural origin or with gentle cleansing action. Another way is to use gloves every time you wash and clean the house.

Sunburn

Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause skin irritation and damage. When this happens, the skin will turn red or pink. A few days later, the sun-damaged area will gradually darken and peel off.

Sunburn causes dryness, discomfort, and it takes days or weeks for the skin to heal. In the meantime, you can soothe the burn by applying a moisturizer or cooling cream.

The only way to prevent skin from peeling from sunburn is to apply sunscreen and carefully cover your hands before going outside.

Reacting to too cold or too hot weather

The dry climate makes the skin prone to cracking and peeling. To remedy this situation, you should:

  • Use a humidifier to balance the indoor climate
  • Use moisturizer or ointment after bathing
  • Wear loose, breathable clothing
  • Avoid bathing in hot water.

Skin peeling can also occur during the summer months. At that time, you sweat a lot, exposure to the active ingredients in sunscreen or insect spray will cause skin irritation.

Finger sucking habit

Many people do not know that the habit of sucking their fingers is one of the causes of peeling skin on the fingers. For children, this may not be an unusual situation, and the child may automatically drop this habit unconsciously as he grows older.

But if you are an adult and still maintain this habit, you need to find a way to give it up so as not to peel off the skin of your hands and other diseases related to the habit of keeping your hands clean.
